‘Why have we fasted?’ they say, ‘and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’ yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers. Your fasting ends in quarrelling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high. Isaiah 58:3-4
Fasting isn’t just about not eating. A hunger-strike is also not eating. There is a conduct that is required of us during our fasting season. Yes, there’s a wrong way to fast. Usually, most people think we shouldn’t tell others when we are fasting but then how else would they know that today isn’t really a good day for a lunch date. I don’t mean publicise on your Facebook but I think your small inner circle should be aware so as to stay out of your way and maybe support you in prayer.
Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face: Matthew 6:16-17
What is happening to you while you are fasting is a beautiful thing. Your inner man is being renewed. (That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his spirit in the inner man; Ephesians 3:16) You are updating your ant-virus. The lines are falling onto you in pleasant places. God is doing a new thing in your life, be happy and perceive it.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Romans 1:20
Enjoy your fasting, focus on God and he will see you through it. Mediate on his word day and night and let it renew your mind. I guarantee you will feel like fasting all the time. Nothing’s stopping you really.
